I posted this on the permaculture reddit forum and folks there were saying that maybe I was overly concerned about the woodchips--that you can mitigate the issue by adding a nitrogen source along with them like compost or manure. Good to know!

I loved the shout out to mom and aunties. I had a very workable seed-starting operation in the basement with strong lights on chains suspended from the ceiling. This really helped seeds to sprout that respond to warmed soil. Then, the lights could be raised as the seedlings grew. I encased each seed-starting tray with reusable sheet plastics that was clipped to the light fixture. It kept the humidity up even in our heated house. We can talk that through when you have a moment.
